The challenge with traditional plant-based sources of vitamin D
Vegans, and others who prefer plant-based forms of vitamin D, have have until now had to use vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol), which is primarily synthetically manufactured. Vitamin D2 requires a higher dose than the D3 form to be as e ective. It has therefore been desirable to nd a plant-based source of vitamin D3, which is the most natural and e ective form of vitamin D, and which has a similar route of action as to the way the body absorbs vitamin D from the sunlight.
Lichen - the rst plant-based Vitamin D3 alternative
Lichen consists of a fungus and an algae that co-exists in a form of symbiosis. The algae is responsible for the formation of sugars using CO2, water and the energy of the sun. The fungus gets nutrition from the algae, and at the same time protects the algae. This gives the lichen unique properties, such as survival in extreme climates and the ability to grow and accumulate useful nutrients, including vitamin D3. There are many di erent species of lichen. In Veg D-3, carefully selected wild-grown lichen are choosen, which has a highly concentrated content of Vitamin D3.
Veg D-3 is vegan and is certi ed by The Vegan Society in England. Veg D-3 becomes a part of Biosyms Veg-series, which includes OmniVegan a multivitamin and VegOmega-3 for vegans.
